When I was 15 years old, my auntie gave me a Canon-A1 and that was it. As soon as I understood I could stop time, I decided that would be my superpower. In silence, we can observe moments and their endless layers and details. Photographing is keeping an illustration of my life.
“Alicia Bastos von Döllinger captures special moments and events from unique places and cultures with the aim of expanding their being to future times, also to freeze what she experiences first-hand so that it can be explored and revisited in more detail. By doing that, she is also gently enabling us – those who also look at the encounters, she has with places, peoples and cultures – to delve into a journey which, in the case of Alicia’s photographs, is populated by other elements apart from the visual: her images have scents, touch, and melody. From the ancient tales of the Nile to the urban European contemporary music festivals, Alicia calls us to get to know, taste flavours and dance with her in this diverse world we all inhabit, transform and share.
As every photograph one makes is in fact a self-portrait – as, in the end, it reflects the photographer’s very perceptions and understanding of what is in front of their camera – I can truly see Alicia Bastos von Döllinger in the images she produces: they are vibrant, powerful, mesmerizing, as are the universes she invites us to learn from and get amazed by, through her photography.”

The Underground Culture of Psy-Trance
Having danced and belonged to a global family of electronic music lovers, the Psychedelic music scene in London between 2002 and 2010 was incredibly diverse, vibrant and community-oriented. I documented parties, festivals, raves, legal and ilegal worldwide. The freedom of visual expression, the connection with nature and mystical symbology, the emotional release, the fashion, and the culture were a school of living and let live.
